 It's on again!

To promote interest in Science and develop scientific understandings, with an oral language focus, the WGPS Super Scientist Competition will be held in Week 6 this term.

Every student is expected to give a 2-5 minute science based whole class presentation. The presentation can take the form of an experiment, a demonstration of a science concept, or an oral report of a concept/idea.
We want to see fun and cool presentations and also, clear explanations of the science concepts involved.

By the end of Week 7, 2 'top' presenters from Room 8's Year 4's and Year 5's will be chosen to deliver their presentations in front of all the Year 4 and 5 students and teachers.

When the  overall winners from each year level have been decided on, a Super Scientist school assembly will be held. Each of these students will get to present their experiment/demonstration to the entire school.

There are many internet sites dedicated to children's science experiments. We encourage students to bring any equipment they need for their presentation from home. Some materials can be provided by the school if children have trouble accessing what they need.

Geography task

Bush-fire Survival Plan Posters
We looked at the geographical features of the Wattle Grove and hills area. After discussing the local climate, we investigated how it might affect the environment. We identified that bush-fires are a serious threat to our community.
We worked in pairs to design and make Bush-fire Survival Plan posters. These are just a few of our posters.

Numero

Numero
Report by Thomas
Numero is a fun game that is good for your brain and helps you get better at maths.
The aim of the game is to try to get the most cards. The dealer gives five cards to each player. Each player then takes turns to do a Take, a Build or a Discard. You have to think quickly. Did I mention that you have to pick up a new card each time you put a card down?
In Room 8 we play Numero once a week. Why don't you give it a go?

Fitness

Kilometre Club
Report by Kyah
Every second week, Room 8 does Kilometre Club for 15 minutes on the oval for our morning fitness.
Goal post to opposite goal post is 100 metres. The distance around the oval is 400 metres.
We keep a log of how far we have run. When we reach 5 km we record it on a graph in the classroom. Later in the year, we will put how far we have run altogether on a map of Australia.
Doing Kilometre Club helps keep our energy up and helps with our fitness.

Stretching is important.
