Department of Fisheries Excursion
Report by Ansh
On
Wednesday 13th June, Room 8 and Room 12 went on an excursion to the
Fisheries Department at Hillarys Boat Harbour. The weather was gloomy and
bleak. We could sit with our friends on the bus and it took almost an hour to
get there.
When
we arrived, Hillarys looked beautiful. The beach was wavy and the Fisheries
Department looked glamorous. We were very keen to learn about fish adaptations.
Some of us had morning tea outside on a rusty bench. Our two Fisheries teachers were
hilarious Michael and smart Linda. Room 8 walked with Michael to Hillarys Beach where we collected seaweed and other interesting things. There were certain parts of
the shore we couldn’t go to and Michael rubbed some disgusting wet seaweed into
his face! We collected a variety of interesting things and then put them into
different categories.
Both
classes had lunch together at the park and stayed within the tree boundaries. We played
joyfully with our friends. After lunch, Room 8 visited the Learning Lab with
Linda. We looked at how five different types of fish have adapted to their
environment and categorised them by examining their colour, scales, tail and
shape.
Lots
of people were sleeping on the way back to school even though it was a bumpy
bus ride. The Fisheries Department important motto we learnt was “Fish for the
future”.
Room 8 would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Esslemont, Mr Gulikers and Mrs Stanley who helped on our excursion.
