Term 3
Welcome back to Term 3
We
have been very busy in Room 8 since we commenced Term 3. Welcome back to the
wonderful Miss Dowling, who is stepping in for Miss Martin while she is away on
maternity leave for the remainder of the year. Also, big congratulations to
Miss Martin on the safe arrival of her beautiful baby boy, Darcy.
Semester 2 Student Councillors
Akash and Rhyanna were voted in as our Semester 2 Student Councillors. Congratulations
to them both. We know they will do an excellent job representing Room 8.

Super Readers
We
are so proud of all the amazing readers in Room 8. Our Literacy Pro word count
for the year so far is almost 8
000 000 words. What a fantastic achievement!
It
is wonderful to see everyone excited about renewing their books and taking out
new books from the library each week.
All students have now completed their Literacy Pro test for Term 3. We encourage everyone to jump online as soon as they finish a book and complete the corresponding quiz.
HASS
This
term in HASS, we are learning about the three levels of government and how the
democratic system of government works in Australia. During our ICT lessons, we
have spent time researching the roles and responsibilities of different
sections of the government.
Morning Fitness
In
preparation for the Athletics Carnival in Week 7, our focus in morning fitness
this term is to improve our athletic skills. We are training to develop our skills in pass ball,
leader ball, tunnel ball and sprinting. We can't wait for the carnival and cross country!

Department of Fisheries Excursion
Report by Ansh
On
Wednesday 13th June, Room 8 and Room 12 went on an excursion to the
Fisheries Department at Hillarys Boat Harbour. The weather was gloomy and
bleak. We could sit with our friends on the bus and it took almost an hour to
get there.
When
we arrived, Hillarys looked beautiful. The beach was wavy and the Fisheries
Department looked glamorous. We were very keen to learn about fish adaptations.
Some of us had morning tea outside on a rusty bench. Our two Fisheries teachers were
hilarious Michael and smart Linda. Room 8 walked with Michael to Hillarys Beach where we collected seaweed and other interesting things. There were certain parts of
the shore we couldn’t go to and Michael rubbed some disgusting wet seaweed into
his face! We collected a variety of interesting things and then put them into
different categories.
Both
classes had lunch together at the park and stayed within the tree boundaries. We played
joyfully with our friends. After lunch, Room 8 visited the Learning Lab with
Linda. We looked at how five different types of fish have adapted to their
environment and categorised them by examining their colour, scales, tail and
shape.
Lots
of people were sleeping on the way back to school even though it was a bumpy
bus ride. The Fisheries Department important motto we learnt was “Fish for the
future”.
Room 8 would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Esslemont, Mr Gulikers and Mrs Stanley who helped on our excursion.

Congratulations to all of Room 8's students for bringing in and presenting such wonderfully interesting science investigations for Super Scientist. Mrs Hoskins and Miss Martin were thoroughly impressed by your presentation skills and the variety of science concepts you all managed to cover. Congratulations to Trent and Akash from Year 4 and Ruby and Riann from Year 5 who will present in front of the rest of their year groups.
Run For Fun
School Run For Fun!
On Friday of Week 5 the sun came out and the whole school participated in Run For Fun. The event was to fundraise for important school resources. It was amazing to see everyone out there, dressed brightly and having a fantastic time. Many thanks to the P&C for organising such a wonderful event!
