Excursion

Kalamunda History Village Excursion

We had a fantastic visit to the Kalamunda History Village in Week 8. We got a real insight into early hill's life from the 1860's to the 1920's. Things have changed so much!
We would especially like to thank Mrs Barnes, Mr Locke, Mr Gulikers and Mrs Stanley for coming along and helping out on our excursion.

Lining up and marching into school.

Writing with pen and ink in the old classroom.
 George, not the cane!

The cottage kitchen with no running water.

 The old fashioned 'dunny'.

 Learning how to sew.

 Making our own games.

Sorting the apples from the orchard.

An original four bedroom cottage where a family of eight lived.

The dining room of the big house.

The telephonist at the old post office.

         Design-a-Float Competition

Hi, my name is Emily.
My name is Melissa.
And my name is Arman.

This year, Room 8 was lucky enough to be entered into the RAC Christmas Pageant Design-a-Float Competition by our teacher, Mrs Hoskins. We had lot of fun designing our floats.
Along with our class, there were thousands of primary school students across Perth who also entered. Sixteen students and their designs were chosen to be a part of the float, and three of those chosen designs were from us.
We have each received a certificate, a t-shirt, prize money and the opportunity to walk beside the float we helped design, in the Christmas Pageant on the 2nd of December.

Today in the ED magazine part of the West Australian Newspaper, there is a sneak peak of the float.
On Thursday, we will be in the West Australian with a full article about the float along with an interview with some of us finalists on Today Tonight, which will be on Channel 7 at 6:30pm on Thursday.
This Saturday,  2nd of December 2017,  is the Christmas Pageant, which will be taking place throughout the streets of Perth starting at St Georges Terrace.

We hope you can come to the Christmas Pageant because there will be lots of floats and entertainment.
So, make sure you tune in on Thursday on Channel 7 at 6:30pm to see the float.

It would be greatly appreciated if all permission slips and payment are handed in by Friday, 24th November

Swimming

Term 4 Swimming
Report by Kavi and George

Every year, Wattle Grove students attend swimming lessons at Belmont Oasis. This year, we had a wonderful time.
Thanks to the bus drivers, we got to Belmont in about twenty minutes, ready for our lesson.

We learnt many different strokes such as, freestyle, breaststroke, sidestroke and backstroke.
We had a great time with our buddy classes and learnt many new swimming skills.

Super Scientist

Super Scientist Finalists
Well done to our fantastic Super Scientist finalists for Term 4. Haziq, Emily, Georgia and Kavi informed and entertained us with their excellent science presentations.
We look forward to watching Georgia, who is the overall Year 4 finalist, give her presentation at the Super Scientist Assembly on Wednesday, 22nd November.

The Colour Run
It was the 5th of November and thousands of people were preparing for the 2017, 5 kilometre Colour Run.  We arrived at Langley Park at 8 am, ready to go.
First of all, we walked around the Hit 92.9 festival where there were free slushies, a mural where you could express your feelings, a 2018 Just Dance station to warm yourself up for the Colour Run and a photo booth.
After waiting almost 2 hours in line, we finally began the run. It was so exciting because people would high-five you and encourage you along the way. There were several stations where the volunteers were throwing coloured cornflour. There was orange, purple, pink and blue. Then, about 750 m away from the finish line, there were giant chunks of sky blue bubbly foam.
To finish off, everyone who participated received a bottle of water, a medal and a packet of coloured corn flour. The colour run was a great experience and a fun time.

Dancing

Dancing

It is that time of the year once again in which we begin preparing for our end of year festivities! The students of Room 8 have begun their dancing lessons with Humphreys Dance Studio. So far we have learnt The Slosh, The Progressive Jive and the beginnings of the Cha-Cha-Cha and a Hip Hop routine! We have been having lots of fun (Miss Martin too) and we cannot wait to show off our skills at the end of the year.

Dioramas

Australian Pioneer Dioramas

We had so much fun making our pioneer/early settler dioramas this week. It was fantastic to see the children being so creative with their ideas and materials. Despite the difficulty of making small shacks and furniture, everyone problem solved together and helped each other out.
We now have an interesting display of pioneer farms, stables, houses, schools, bakeries and shops in Room 8.
