STEM Ice-Breaker Activity

This year Room 8 will be incorporating an increasing number of STEM tasks into our learning. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and is based upon these areas being taught cohesively. STEM aims to focus on problem solving, critical analysis and creative thinking skills. As a fun ice-breaker to get to know our cooperative learning teams the students of Room 8 were given a task to build their own roller coaster. There were many problems to overcome such as restricted materials, time management and compromising on a final plan. There were, however, two successful teams that managed to get their ‘roller coaster cart’ safely back to ground. Regardless of the outcome, all students thoroughly enjoyed the chance to work together. We will probably leave the roller coaster designing to the experts though!

Welcome to Room 8 in 2018!

Hello and a very warm welcome to all parents and students joining us in Room 8 for 2018. We have had a wonderful two weeks getting to know each other and establishing rules, routines and future learning goals. The students have all settled in well and are demonstrating much eagerness to get stuck into all that being a year four or five brings! It is going to be a great year and we look forward to working with all of you.
